Professional Experience

 

Ms. Hollander’s practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property, including:

  • Complex litigation in trademark and copyright infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising cases.
  • Extensive experience practicing before the Patent and Trademark Office and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board as well as district and appellate courts throughout the country.
  • Management of International and U.S. prosecution and maintenance of trademark applications and registrations for diverse industries.
  • Negotiation of numerous trademark settlement agreements and license agreements. 
  • Extensive enforcement efforts in protecting and policing intellectual property rights. 
  • Ms. Hollander has performed these services in a wide variety of areas, including technology and internet companies, renowned artists, food, wine, and apparel companies, state and local agencies, financial institutions, health care organizations and entertainment companies, as well as for individuals.
  • Retained on behalf of the State of California to defend the Bureau of Automotive Repair in infringement action.
  • Represented Napa and Sonoma Valley wineries in successful trademark infringement actions.
  • Represented Xilinx, Inc. in trademark and trademark litigation matters.
  • Extensive experience in overseeing trademark surveys on all issues relating to the defense of trademark rights.
  • Lectured on trademark developments and trade dress issues.
  • Responsible for numerous reported trademark decisions.

  • Duck Walk Vineyards, Inc. v. St. Helena Wine Co., Inc. d/b/a Duckhorn Vineyards CV-01-4896.
  • Xilinx, Inc. v. Bausch & Lomb (N.D. Cal. 2001).
  • Chicken of the Sea International v. Mermaid Seafoods (D. Conn. 2000).  Lead counsel for Chicken of the Sea International in successful Federal Court trial protecting the Mermaid trademark.
  • Duckhorn Vineyards v. Duck Pond Cellars (N.D. Cal. 2000).  Successfully defended Duckhorn Vineyards in a trademark and trade dress infringement action against Duck Pond Cellars of Oregon.
  • Duckhorn Vineyards v. Wood Duck Pond Cellars (1999).  Successfully defended Duckhorn Vineyards in a trademark and trade dress infringement action against Wood Duck Pond Cellars of Sonoma County.
  • Newhall Land and Farming Co. v. Easton Investments (C.D. Cal. 1993).  Lead counsel for the City of Valencia in jury trial and subsequent 9th Circuit appeal protecting the trademark "Valencia" against the defense that VALENCIA was unprotectable as a trademark for being geographically descriptive. Won a precedent $2.3 million trademark infringement jury verdict.
  • Sinai v. the State of California’s Bureau of Automotive Repair, 25 U.S.P.Q.2d 1809 (N.D. Cal 1992).  Summary Judgment in favor of client, State of California, on copyright infringement claim.
  • Cellularm, Inc. v. Bay Alarm Co., 20 U.S.P.Q.2d 1340 (N.D. Cal. 1991). Summary Judgment in favor of client, Bay Alarm, dismissing Cellularm’s claim for actual damages in trademark infringement action.
  • Glen Ellen Winery v. Emerald Bay Winery (1990).  Successfully defended Glen Ellen in a trade dress action against Emerald Bay Winery of Monterey.
  • First Interstate Bancorp v. Stenquist dba First Interstate Lending, 16 U.S.P.Q.2d. 1704 (N.D. Cal. 1990); 18 U.S.P.Q.2d 1159 (N.D. Cal. 1990).  Summary judgment in favor of client, First Interstate Bancorp, dismissing First Interstate Realty’s trademark infringement claim and granting summary judgment on First Interstate Bancorp’s trademark infringement claim.
