Karen Lam provides regulatory and transactional counsel to a wide array of clients in the healthcare industry, including managed care plans, pharmacy benefit managers, hospitals, health systems, vendors and suppliers and pharmacy providers.
Ms. Lam's practice focuses on compliance with state and federal requirements, particularly as related to the Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE programs and commercial insurance. She regularly interacts with state government agencies regarding pharmacy- and insurance-related rules and regulations on her clients' behalf, and she closely monitors state legislative and regulatory developments important to their businesses. Ms. Lam also has experience drafting and negotiating complex multiparty agreements, and she assists clients in analyzing the federal and state regulatory impacts of proposed transactions involving various types of payor and provider arrangements and licensing and certification.
Prior to joining Manatt, Ms. Lam was an associate in the health industry practice group of an international full-service law firm, where she primarily focused on healthcare-related corporate transactions. She held numerous internship and clerkship positions while attending law and graduate schools, including with the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, Office of Compliance and the Los Angeles County Counsel, Health Services Division.
Ms. Lam began her career as an associate with the California Association of Public Hospitals & Health Systems, where she managed the organization's quality improvement and community health initiatives and also assessed and drafted proposed California state legislation.
