Smart Homes Aim for Consumers' Wallets as Energy Costs Soar

CNBC interviewed Manatt's Michael Polentz, co-chair of the firm's Real Estate and Land Use practice, on why more people are considering innovative "smart home" technology designed to help conserve energy and save money.

CNBC reports that interest is building around smart homes, and a new study suggests that consumers are slowly hopping on the bandwagon. The emerging trend features top shelf technology that converges with energy efficiency. Examples include WiFi thermostats and geothermal heat pumps.

"It puts power in the hand of the user and consumer," said Polentz. "It gives them the ability to track [home energy] on a real time basis, and make decisions on how you want to live at any time."
