California Legislature Remembers Charles T. Manatt

In honor of Chuck Manatt's passing in July 2011, the California State Senate adjourned in memory of Ambassador Manatt on August 15.

Manatt's Tom McMorrow, chair of the firm's California Policy Practice Group and administrative partner of the Sacramento office, was asked to join the state Senate Floor Session for the honor. Numerous senators spoke about Mr. Manatt's life, public service and business leadership, including Senate President Darrell Steinberg and Senators Kevin de León, Alex Padilla and Rod Wright. Many more senators asked to speak, but were unable to do so for procedural reasons. Senate President Steinberg made special note of recognizing all those senators who also wanted to speak, but whom he was unable to let speak given procedural considerations.

At the same time, the California State Assembly also adjourned in Ambassador Manatt's memory. Assembly Member Charles Calderon, who knew Mr. Manatt for many years, spoke movingly and made the motion in memoriam of Mr. Manatt.
