Joel Ario Speaks to MarketWatch on Waiting to Buy Coverage

October 1, 2013 - Manatt's Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health Solutions, spoke to MarketWatch about the advantages of waiting to buy coverage on the newly launched exchanges.

MarketWatch reports that the Affordable Care Act is a complex 900-plus-page tome of changes intended to provide new rights and protections that will make coverage fairer and easier to understand. However, nearly 70% of respondents of a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll said they grasp only parts of the healthcare overhaul. But those who are looking to buy coverage on the new exchanges have some time.

"You don't need to rush into it," said Ario.

People don't need to sign up the day of the launch, or even the following week, to ensure they get coverage for 2014. It might even be better to wait several weeks, considering the number of technical glitches that occur with the onset of any new program of this size.
