Music Connection featured Manatt's Gary Gilbert, co-chair of the firm's Entertainment and Media practice, for an executive profile in the publication's August 2014 issue.
The profile highlights Gilbert's career as a music attorney, including how he got his start in the field. Music Connections notes Gilbert was a journalism major at the University of Missouri for one year before switching into law, then serendipitously started his music practice. While he's helped nurture acts into megastars, Gilbert continually works with young artists. His clients include Death Cab for Cuties, Megadeth, Sugarland, Sara Evans, Lyle Lovett, k.d. lang, George Benson, Kenny G, and others.
When asked what he looks for in artists, Gilbert said, "I'm looking for people who are self-starters. The people who are winning today are entrepreneurial. It's a lot different than it used to be. I like the way it is today, because there are more opportunities. And there are many different ways to get there."
