Politico Quotes Joel Ario on the Swing States for ACA Enrollment

"The Swing States of Obamacare"

August 22, 2013 - Politico quoted Manatt's Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health Solutions, on the federal government's attention on the three states with the largest uninsured populations, known as the "swing states."

Politico reports that the federal government will need to convince large chunks of the uninsured in California, Florida and Texas to enroll in the Affordable Care Act's new insurance exchanges in order to reach its first year enrollment goal of 7 million. These three states are home to more than one-third of the nation's 46 million uninsured people, and in the coming months, they'll receive high-profile administration visits, money, resources and national press attention to help boost enrollment.

"You look at the big states because that's where the large numbers are," said Ario.

Ario added, "If you look at those large states, they do tend to have pretty competitive insurance markets." That, he said, will help keep rates low and potentially bring in some of those uninsured customers.
