John Heber, a partner in Manatt's LA office, will be a panelist speaking on current issues in executive compensation and benefits in a tele-web seminar sponsored by the California Banker's Association on June 3, 2008 at 11:30AM (Pacific). The following topics will be addressed:
- Discuss the various challenges that community banks face in establishing and administering executive compensation and benefits programs in the current regulatory environment.
- The speakers will identify the various tax laws, SEC regulations, OCC and institutional shareholder guidelines and best practices that impact the administration and governance of executive compensation and benefits programs.
- The speakers will present compensation data obtained from institutions of various sizes and identify current trends in the banking industry.
- The speakers will also discuss the pros and cons of Bank Owned Life Insurance as a means to fund executive compensation obligations, such as deferred compensation, supplemental executive retirement and death benefit plans, versus other funding mechanisms.
- The program has been designed to provide banking institutions of various sizes an overview of the challenges of compensating banking executives in this new world of regulation and shareholder scrutiny.

John J. Heber Mr. Heber is an attorney who specializes in executive compensation and benefit programs for both domestic and international companies. Prior to joining Manatt, Mr. Heber led the Compensation and Benefits consulting practice at a Big 4 accounting firm. With his tax, legal, accounting and consulting background, Mr. Heber is able to advise on the tax, regulatory and strategic issues related to executive compensation and benefit programs.
