Professional Experience

Ms. Newman is a Manager for Manatt Health Solutions, a policy and business advisory unit within the national healthcare practice at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP. 

Prior to joining Manatt, Ms. Newman served as the director of health policy at the California Academy of Family Physicians in San Francisco, California.  There she directed state and national quality improvement projects focusing on chronic disease management, systems change, and automation; managed federal legislative and regulatory agendas, including Medicare and Medi-Cal issues; advanced healthcare reform strategies that addressed the full spectrum of primary care issues; and provided expert guidance to foundations, community leaders, legislators and key stakeholders on health systems innovation, health information technology, medical home, workforce development, and cultural proficiency.   

Ms. Newman also served as policy specialist at the National Center on Caregiving at Family Caregiver Alliance.  In this role, Ms. Newman managed a nationally recognized 50-state initiative to analyze health and social service programs, secured federal and foundation funding for the provision of expert guidance over caregiver issues, provided technical expertise to federal and state leaders on long-term care policy, and directed the federal legislative agenda. 

Ms. Newman was also a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski.
