Professional Experience
Terri Seligman’s primary practice areas include advertising, promotions and Internet law. Her practice involves all issues and transactions relating to traditional and online marketing and promotion of products and services in a wide range of industries, including financial services, consumer products, entertainment, telecommunications and pharmaceuticals. Ms. Seligman counsels clients regarding the legal issues concerned with the creation and distribution of advertising, marketing and promotional materials. Her practice covers all applicable areas, from review of advertising claims and their substantiation to the application of marketing and intellectual property laws and laws governing rights of publicity and privacy. She also advises clients on the state laws governing such popular marketing devices as gift cards, reward programs and rebates. Ms. Seligman also represents companies in disputes and regulatory matters involving advertising and marketing issues, including those before broadcast networks, the National Advertising Division (NAD) and state Attorney General. Her experience before NAD has included the representation of a diverse group of companies as both challengers and advertisers. These disputes have covered a range of product categories, including baby formula, gum, consumer health products, broadband Internet access service, beverages and household cleaning and teeth whitening products. In addition, Ms. Seligman drafts and negotiates all types of contracts relevant to advertising and marketing arrangements, including celebrity talent deals, sponsorship and co-promotion agreements, media agreements, and licensing agreements. She also has experience in counseling her clients on Internet issues and transactions, including strategic affiliations, privacy protection and regulation of advertising and marketing online. Prior to joining Manatt, Ms. Seligman worked at a national law firm specializing in advertising law.
