Manatt’s new collaboration with George Smith Partners (GSP) was highlighted in the July 9 GlobeSt.com article, “GSP, Manatt Launch CMBS Advisory Services.” Manatt and GSP have joined forces to provide legal and financial advisory services to borrowers with securitized commercial real estate loans (CMBS). This initiative meets a growing need in the commercial real estate industry for assistance in properly structuring and implementing CMBS debt workouts, by combining Manatt’s legal expertise in securitization and workout of CMBS loans with GSP’s real estate finance knowledge. “As more borrowers are faced with the need to restructure their debt, the key will be to craft a workout that addresses the challenges of the underlying property, the economic motivations of the players and the contractual limits on the servicer’s discretion,” said Clayton B. Gantz, partner and co-chair of Manatt’s Distressed Asset Practice Group.
