Variety’s 2017 Key Dealmakers List Includes Yen

2017 Dealmakers Impact Report

In its 2017 “Dealmakers Impact Report,” Variety recognized Manatt team Lindsay Conner and Sophia Yen as key players driving the most significant deals in the entertainment business. Each year, Variety identifies the most prominent Hollywood dealmakers in its prestigious annual list, noting this year that “without the hard work of these execs and attorneys, the wheels of entertainment would come to a grinding halt.” A special breakfast will be held on December 7 in Beverly Hills, honoring the powerbrokers and kingmakers of the industry.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that Conner, who co-chairs Manatt’s entertainment and media practice, has appeared on the list. In October, he and Yen represented China-based Perfect World Pictures for a $250 million ultimates-based loan facility, and a month prior, closed Tang Media Partners’ television slate financing for an inter-creditor agreement with additional funding.

Conner told Variety that the China-Hollywood financial relationship has stabilized, after a period of exuberance. “Going forward, we will see substantial business done by sophisticated Chinese entertainment companies seeking to partner with the key players in Hollywood,” he said. “The relationship is vital on both sides of the Pacific.”
