Wilson, Hernandez Named to Daily Journal’s 2019 List of Top Women Lawyers in California

Manatt’s Donna Wilson, CEO, Managing Partner-Elect, and leader of the privacy and data security group, and Ileana Hernandez, a partner in the litigation group, were named to Daily Journal’s 2019 list of the Top Women Lawyers in California.

The publication highlighted Wilson’s extensive work counseling clients on the new California Consumer Privacy Act, set to take effect on January 1, 2020, and how it will affect them. Wilson said she and the privacy and data security group are working diligently to keep clients informed of the latest updates and potential legislation affecting the act.

“We’re both business and legal advisors,” she said. “We describe our role as three buckets: consulting and risk management, incident response, and litigation and enforcement. We help clients from an enterprise risk perspective, and we’re very busy.”

In its profile of Hernandez, Daily Journal detailed her extensive work in the health insurance and managed healthcare industries, as well as her pro bono work.

Hernandez defends major health plans and insurers in competition actions, investigations and enforcement actions, bad faith denial of benefits suits, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act suits.

She also handles pro bono cases and represents Spanish-speaking clients seeking assistance with asylum, adoptions, permanent guardianships and unlawful detainer actions.

“I very much enjoy what I do,” she said. “Manatt gives me the opportunity to balance a vibrant healthcare practice with meaningful asylum work.”
