Manatt Supports 2011 Diversity Scholarships Through California Bar Foundation

Manatt partnered with the California Bar Foundation on the organization’s 2011 Diversity Scholarship Program, which awards more than $150,000 in scholarships to law students who come from communities underrepresented in the legal profession. The Foundation, a nonprofit committed to building a better justice system for all Californians, awarded 21 California law students $7,500 each at a reception in San Francisco, on September 22.

“Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP is excited to partner with the California Bar Foundation and demonstrate our commitment to diversifying the legal profession through the Diversity Scholarship Program,” said William T. Quicksilver, the firm's CEO and managing partner.

More than 150 students applied for the scholarships, with selections based on academic excellence, financial need and commitment to the community.

“Manatt is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Diversity Scholarship, which recognizes a select group of law students,” said Quicksilver. “These students have impressed us not only with their academic achievements and compelling life experiences, but also with their deep commitment to contributing to their communities.”

The firm was one of several high-profile donors, including the state’s largest law firms and corporations. The individual awards are named for the donors.

Manatt’s contribution, funding the Manatt Scholar award, was received by Alexa Camarena, a first-year student at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law. Alexa and the other scholarship winners were honored at a reception featuring Hon. Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Chief Justice of California.
