CHIP Faces Risks if Matching Rates Are Lowered

Children’s Health Program Could Be Left Unscathed From Partisan Healthcare Fights
– The Hill Extra

The Hill Extra quoted Manatt’s Deborah Bachrach, a partner with Manatt Health, for an article about the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which has been seen as generally safe from partisan fights this year. Funding for the program is set to expire at the end of fiscal year 2017, leaving it vulnerable to budget cuts.

“Every action [the federal government] takes has implications for coverage. If [the federal government] decreases the CHIP matching rate, it will be difficult for some states to continue CHIP coverage,” Bachrach said. “Every cutback in scope of benefits or federal matching dollars will create barriers for state coverage.”
