The Wrap quoted Manatt’s Hale Boggs, chair of the firm’s media, technology and advertising practice, for an article about the biggest media deals in 2016. The publication highlighted the critical role that emerging streaming services played in enhancing the value of premium content, as more distribution outlets are bidding for it.

However, the publication reported that as a growing number of cable customers leave in favor of stand-alone streaming services, there might not be room for all of them to thrive.

Boggs confirmed that he expects to see some of those individual streaming providers get together.

“We’ll see a wave of consolidation, and it’s not too far away,” said Boggs.
