Manatt’s Lisl Dunlop, co-chair of the firm’s antitrust and competition practice, was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune on Advocate Health Care and NorthShore University Health System’s announcement to collaborate on pediatric care.
Last year, the health systems called off a planned merger after the Federal Trade Commission moved to block the deal.
“Trying to merge, being knocked back, and trying to do something else is very common because the economic drivers are still there,” said Dunlop. She explained that in contemplating merging their pediatric units, they likely saw the competition from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago as an insurance policy against regulatory scrutiny.
