Several companies have entered a new arena by competing with Hulu and Netflix as original entertainment content creators. According to the publication, Facebook spent as much as $1 billion on original shows that focus on entertainment, with themes covering grief, romance and drug use.
According to Shin, while rivals including Amazon, Apple and YouTube have spent billions on video content to bring in consumers who have ditched network and cable TV, only a few of these companies will succeed. She added that streaming services such as Verizon’s Go90 have not been successful.
