Manatt’s Gregg Nunziata, a partner in the firm’s government and regulatory practice, joined a panel discussion on Fox News to discuss the open FBI investigation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Several panelists claimed Democrats were responsible for delaying Kavanaugh’s confirmation and that they urged Senator Flake to request an FBI probe of the allegations of sexual assault. Nunziata explained why he thought an investigation was unnecessary.

“They [the FBI] take statements from people who knew the nominee and try to see if there is an allegation that should be investigated by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Senate Judiciary Committee has already heard these allegations, has already investigated them [and] has sworn statements that expose all these people to five years in prison if they’re lying,” said Nunziata.
