Mississippi to Test Limits of Medicaid Work Requirements

Manatt’s Patricia Boozang, a senior managing director with Manatt Health, was interviewed by The Hill for an article on Mississippi’s Medicaid program.

Mississippi has proposed modifying its Medicaid program so that only those who are working, self-employed, volunteering or in a drug treatment program will be eligible for Medicaid. The publication noted the potential negative impact on the state if passed, since Mississippi is one of the poorest states in the nation.

“If the objective of work requirements is to lift people out of poverty, it’s hard to make that case when the income levels are so low,” said Boozang.
