Yen to Host SXSW Panel on Audience Engagement, Next-Gen Storytelling

Audience Engagement: The New Path to Greenlighting
– SXSW 2018

Manatt’s Sophia Yen, a partner in the firm’s entertainment and media practice, will moderate a cutting-edge panel at SXSW 2018 on how audience engagement is being used by digital media companies and studios to determine the next generation of storytelling.

Titled “Audience Engagement: The New Path to Greenlighting,” the panel will explore innovative methods of film and television development and distribution between digital platforms and the Hollywood studio system. In a culture where on-demand media is becoming the norm, newly available data highlights what audiences want to watch. Yen’s panel will examine how the entertainment industry can utilize that data to expand content, targeting new audiences across traditionally underrepresented demographics.

Yen’s panel was selected through SXSW’s annual Panel Picker process. Participants can submit panel topics to SXSW, which are then voted on by the SXSW staff and advisory board and through a public poll.

Panelists will include Yen, internet superstar Quinta Brunson, Buzzfeed’s Hieu Ho and 21st Century Fox’s Scott Norville. The panel will take place on March 11 at 12:30 p.m. CT at the Austin Convention Center.
