Manatt Health senior managing director Patricia Boozang spoke with MedPage Today about the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates and their proposed updates to Medicaid. Boozang said she was surprised that the candidates haven’t discussed Medicaid buy-ins during their campaigns. “Maybe as we get further along in the primaries and debates about healthcare, we’ll hear more about deferring to states and having states craft their unique approaches to how they want to solve affordability and access issues,” she said. The article also noted that during a 2018 webinar, Boozang identified three basic models that states are considering for Medicaid buy-ins: off-marketplace buy-in, on-marketplace buy-in and basic health program buy-in.
