Sarah Chambless, a partner in the venture capital and emerging companies practice, spoke on a panel on March 11 at the South by Southwest Conference and Festivals (SXSW), an annual event encompassing film, interactive media, music and conferences in Austin, Texas.
Chambless and her fellow panelists spoke about the statistics on venture capital (VC) funding for women-led startups, and how the tech industry can help close the gap in VC funding between these startups and those led by men. They also discussed how they have moved beyond these statistics, proposed practical solutions and debated how to create a parallel investment ecosystem that best leverages female founders, funders and customers.
The panel included Maxine Kozler Koven, co-managing director of LDR Ventures; Tosca Musk, CEO and co-founder of the streaming platform Passionflix; and Diana Trout, co-founder of the Health-Ade Kombucha brand.
Chambless was one of 39 female attorneys featured as panelists or speakers at this year’s SXSW; over 68 percent of the 57 attorneys on panels were women.
