Manatt financial services partner Scott Pearson spoke with American Banker on the possibility of a Democratic victor in the 2020 presidential race firing the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) once in office. Some have said that the Supreme Court will soon hear one of three cases challenging the constitutionality of the CFPB. Pearson said that “there could be the potential for pretty wide swings in [CFPB] policy from administration to administration,” and that this is “one of the reasons why people said there should be a [CFPB] commission.”
