Manatt Health partner Anne Karl and counsel Allison Orris spoke with Bloomberg about the flaws in the algorithm used to distribute COVID-19 relief funds to providers, and especially about the disparities in funding faced by communities that have large populations of uninsured and Medicaid patients. In the article, Karl and Orris noted that the disparity in funding extends beyond hospitals, and that community-based care providers—such as clinics and doctors’ offices—are receiving fewer funds despite them serving areas with high rates of COVID-19 as well as HHS’s attempt to address these disparities. “We are really concerned that it has the result of delivering the least amount of aid to providers on the ground serving communities in need,” Orris said.
