Bay Area Counties Allow Construction to Recommence on May 4

COVID-19 Update

Effective May 4, 2020, construction projects throughout the Bay Area may recommence, subject to specified protocols. Although Governor Newsom’s statewide stay-at-home mandate has always recognized construction as “essential” in California, more restrictive orders adopted by six Bay Area counties found construction allowed in only very limited instances. That restriction was significantly relaxed today, with revisions to the Bay Area orders allowing all construction to recommence effective May 4, subject to protocol restrictions. While the links above are to Santa Clara County pages, the same order was also adopted by Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo and San Francisco counties.
