Manatt Adds New Partner to Digital and Technology Group

Eric Bergner is latest industry veteran to further strengthen the firm’s broad media capabilities

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a multidisciplinary, integrated national professional services firm, announced today that Eric Bergner has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the digital and technology group. Bergner brings deep legal and industry knowledge, advising clients on content acquisition, distribution and monetization. His arrival follows that of nationally recognized marketing and advertising partner, Po Yi, who joined the firm’s consumer protection, advertising & competition practice earlier this month.

A well-known transactional lawyer, Bergner has worked with many leading consumer electronics, entertainment and publishing companies. He has a deep understanding of the issues relating to the protection of intellectual property on digital platforms, and brings wide-ranging capabilities in the software and technology spaces. His work involves helping clients produce live events, including drafting and negotiating agreements on venue licensing, advertising and sponsorship sales, concessions sales and performances by talent.

“Eric has represented some of the largest global consumer electronics, entertainment and media companies, and his extensive experience will provide tremendous value and leadership to Manatt’s digital and technology group,” said William T. Quicksilver, Manatt’s chief executive officer and managing partner. “We look forward to having Eric as our newest partner as we continue to expand our integrated legal and strategic business services in the New York office.”

Bergner previously served as chair of the intellectual property group at Moses & Singer, where he advised clients ranging from traditional media to online and mobile companies on issues such as content, licensing and distribution. Bergner was also Moses & Singer’s co-chair of global outsourcing and procurement and privacy and cybersecurity groups.

“Manatt takes an innovative approach to legal counsel and professional services, and I am looking forward to further developing and growing the firm’s digital and technology group in New York,” said Bergner. “As the media and technology industries continue to evolve, I am excited to start working with a talented, entrepreneurial team to help clients navigate the increasingly complex legal, regulatory and business challenges in today’s entertainment, media and technology landscape.”

Bergner earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A. in English from Vassar College.
