Prepare for More Health Care Investigations: A Primer on Navigating Internal and Government Investigations

In FY 2020, the Department of Justice opened 1,079 new civil health care fraud investigations and had 1,498 civil health care fraud matters pending at the end of the fiscal year. The number of investigations targeting the health industry is expected to increase again in 2022, driven by a myriad of factors, from the billions of dollars distributed through COVID-19 relief programs to the increasing enforcement efforts around opioids to the skyrocketing use of telehealth during the pandemic. These events coincide with the election of the Biden Administration and its focus on anticorruption.

In a new webinar, Manatt Health examines changing enforcement trends, what to expect in the year ahead and how to protect your organization in an environment of increasing scrutiny. Key topics that will be covered include:

  • Understanding the current landscape of enforcement activity and changes in approach from the Trump to the Biden Administration
  • Getting an internal investigation off to the right start, including understanding the events that should trigger an investigation
  • Changing the investigation approach when the government is involved
  • Engaging management and boards of directors in the investigation process
  • Effectively resolving noncompliance to ensure maximum protection to the organization
