Advancing Healthcare Transformation: A New Era for Academic Nursing

Prepared for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing

Transforming academic healthcare is a formidable challenge that can only be met through a coordinated response from academic and practice leaders from across the health professions. Nursing recognizes its important role in steering this critical work.

In a new report prepared for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Manatt Health examines the potential for enhanced partnership between academic nursing and academic health centers (AHCs) around the imperative to advance integrated systems of healthcare, achieve improved health outcomes, and foster new models for innovation. The report is intended as a guide for nursing and AHC leaders in implementing organizational change that will bring the assets and talents of their schools of nursing to bear on the challenge of transforming healthcare.

Armed with a fresh understanding of today's landscape in both AHC and non-AHC affiliated institutions, the report identifies best practices and effective strategies for aligning schools of nursing with AHCs and other health science schools around a transformation agenda that leverages the unique skills and expertise of schools of nursing, their faculty, and students.
