Healthcare Dive quoted Manatt's Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, regarding the status of health insurance co-ops, which were spotlighted at a recent Senate meeting devoted to shoring up the co-ops that continue in the marketplace.
Ario cites risk corridor payments and risk adjustment as key issues that need to be addressed in the upcoming year. Ario also warns, "You don't want to grow too fast, as did some of those that failed."
"It's more like a long hard slog than a quick victory," said Ario, "but still, in my 20 years watching the individual insurance market, it is so much more stable and there are better options for people than there ever were before the ACA."
