Represented a group of investors in a joint venture with a major Bay Area developer to form a company that will act as the general partner in the development of a project in the city of San Jose with 447 residential units, 208,500 square feet of office, and 8,000 square feet of retail.
Represented a hotel owner and developer in a joint venture for the redevelopment of an existing 37,000-square-foot hotel and the construction of new 80,000-square-foot condominium housing on the hotel grounds in partnership with a residential developer and equity investor.
Represented a foreign investor in the negotiation of a real estate partnership agreement with an accomplished local developer and then represented the joint venture in the acquisition of a high-profile parcel of land in the city of Malibu’s Civic Center in order to create a mixed-use development with more than 100,000 square feet of high-end retail and office space.
Represented the owner of a mixed-use property in the city of Palo Alto in a multi-tier joint venture with a New York-based developer and equity investor for the redevelopment of a 67,000-square-foot shopping center and residential development occupying the better part of a city block.
Represented an investor in the negotiation of a partnership agreement with an airport developer for the development of a 40,000-square-foot jet hangar at the Van Nuys Airport.
Represented a sponsor and operating company in a real estate syndication in which the operating company acquired an approximately $20 million multifamily apartment building in Los Angeles for a value-add redevelopment project.
Acquisitions and Dispositions
Represented a seller in the sale of a 14.5-acre site in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles to a multifamily developer; the disposition was widely reported for its size and record-setting purchase price for that area.
Represented a public company in the acquisition of an industrial portfolio in the city of Fontana, CA, containing approximately 700,000 square feet, notable because construction of the buildings was not scheduled for completion until immediately prior to the closing.
Represented a waste collection and recycling company in the acquisition of a major ground lease for a materials recovery facility in Southern California.
Represented a buyer in the acquisition of an office building in the city of Cupertino, CA, anchored by Apple, Inc.
Represented a buyer in the acquisition of an apartment project approved for condominium use on the Los Angeles Westside, from the original developer; the acquisition was reported for its record-setting purchase price for that area.

Represented top credit international tenant in the lease of over 250,000 square feet of high-rise office space in major downtown city center.
Represented a tenant in the ground lease of land at the Van Nuys Airport and the related sublease of a finished jet hangar facility.
Represented a landlord in the lease of a major events center on the Orange County Fairgrounds in Orange County, CA.
Represented a master tenant in the acquisition and revamping of a shopping center leasehold in the city of Huntington Beach, CA.
Represented a landlord in a dispute with anchor tenants over an alleged violation of exclusive use covenants.
Represented a borrower in a $60 million loan from a foreign lender for the acquisition of a class A office building in the city of Los Angeles.
Represented a co-owner in two highly contentious shotgun-style buy/sell transactions, involving the sale of tenancy-in-common interests in a development project in the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles and in a multifamily residential project in the city of Glendale, CA.
Development Management Agreements and Construction Agreements
Represented a Los Angeles-based investment management and development firm in numerous development management agreements for single-family and multifamily housing projects in the cities of Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, CA, and Centerville, UT.
Represented a development company in the negotiation of a guaranteed maximum price construction agreement for the construction of a 40,000-square-foot jet hangar facility at the Van Nuys Airport.
Facility Management Agreements
Represented the operator of the Chula Vista Training Center in negotiation of a facility operation agreement with the city of Chula Vista, CA, effective upon the city’s acquisition of the former Olympic Training Center from the United States Olympic Committee.
Represent the developer of the largest desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere in the development of a new desalination plant in Orange County, CA.
Represented the developer of an integrated gasification combined-cycle power generating and fertilizer facility in negotiating a carbon dioxide purchase and sale agreement with a major petroleum extractor for the sale of carbon dioxide captured during steady-state operations, to be used for enhanced oil recovery.
Pro Bono Work on Behalf of Holocaust Survivors
Overseeing attorney for Manatt’s pro bono program for obtaining pensions for Holocaust survivors based on their work in Nazi-controlled ghettos during the Second World War.
Represented survivors and their spouses in approximately 15 petitions for pensions under the German pension agency’s “ZRBG” ghetto pension and the Claims Conference’s “Article 2 Fund” pension.
