He has experience managing all aspects of global trademark portfolios, including selection, clearance, registration, maintenance, licensing, enforcement, acquisition and assignment of clients’ trademarks.
As a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the U.S. Private Sector (CIPP/US), Markus also counsels businesses and other organizations on privacy and data security issues. Among other things, he advises clients on privacy and data security best practices, especially as they relate to the protection and management of intellectual property; assists in incident investigation, containment and mitigation; manages data breach responses; and assists impacted entities before and during litigation.
In addition to his trademark and copyright counseling and data privacy and security practice, Markus has extensively represented clients in anti-cybersquatting, anti-counterfeiting, trademark and copyright infringement, and trade secret litigation. Additionally, he has advised clients on phishing and affiliate fraud, fair use, DMCA compliance and other copyright matters, rights of privacy and publicity, and other matters generally relating to the Internet.
