It's Time for Maine to Reconsider Medicaid Expansion

Maine newspaper Bangor Daily News featured Manatt's recent report, "States Expanding Medicaid See Significant Budget Savings and Revenue Gains," in an editorial discussing how Maine policymakers can now use the experiences of other states to better inform their decisions on expanding Medicaid.

Bangor Daily News reports that Maine Gov. Paul LePage and his administration have claimed over the past few years that the state can't afford to expand Medicaid. Drawing on other states' experience, a new analysis conducted by Manatt Health projects a $26.7 million budget benefit in 2016 if Maine expands Medicaid, due to a combination of savings from shifting expenses elsewhere in the state budget to Medicaid and new revenues the state would take in from hospitals treating newly covered patients.
