Arkansas' Medicaid Experiment, Key to Obamacare Expansion, on Ropes
– Kaiser Health News

Kaiser Health News quoted Manatt's Deborah Bachrach, a partner in the firm's Healthcare Division, on the first large-scale effort - led by Arkansas - to enroll Medicaid recipients into the same private health insurance plans that any consumer might buy in the online insurance marketplaces.

As reported by Kaiser Health News, more than 80,000 Arkansans have gained Medicaid coverage under the health law this year through the state's unique arrangement known as the "private option." Medicaid typically works by enrollees joining state-operated programs or private managed care plans designed. Arkansas' private option enrollees, however, will have access to a larger network of doctors and hospitals than is usually available through Medicaid.

"In crafting the 'private option,' Arkansas has provided a pathway for other states," said Bachrach. "They are truly trailblazers."
