National Law Journal Ranks Manatt a Top-20 Firm for Women Lawyers

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, has been recognized as one of the top 20 firms in the National Law Journal’s 2012 Female Scorecard, which assigns NLJ 250 law firms a “Women In Law” score and ranking based on female lawyer counts. Manatt, which is currently ranked No. 132 by size on the NLJ 250 list, achieved an overall score of 61.1, thereby placing the firm at No. 19 on the Scorecard. The Scorecard was released on June 1, 2012, by the National Law Journal.

The Female Scorecard contains staffing counts on female lawyers at NLJ 250 firms, and key data points include:

  • Women In Law score and ranking
  • Total female lawyers
  • Total female partners
  • Total female associates
  • Total female lawyers classified other than partner or associate

Ranking is based on the overall Women In Law score, which is derived from the total percentage of female lawyers at the firm plus the percentage of total female partners. Data for 2012 female lawyers for the NLJ 250 reflects average full-time-equivalent counts for lawyers in the calendar year 2011. All female counts are self-reported.

In 2011, Manatt had 326 full-time-equivalent lawyers at the firm, 35 percent of whom were women. Out of Manatt’s 190 partners, 50 were women, or 26.1 percent. With regard to equity partners, 11 of the firm’s 53 equity partners were women, or 20.6 percent.

Manatt has consistently been recognized as a firm committed to the advancement of women lawyers. The firm has appeared for four years – each year the designation has been bestowed – on the prestigious “Best Law Firms for Women” list presented by the National Association for Female Executives and Flex-Time Lawyers. In 2011, Manatt was one of only 32 law firms to receive the Women in Law Empowerment Forum’s Gold Standard Certification, which recognized Manatt’s integration of women lawyers into the highest leadership positions at the firm.
