New ACA Provision Is 'Quite Flexible'

How the GOP Could Use Obamacare to Gut Obamacare Back
– Politico

Politico interviewed Manatt's Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health Solutions, for an article on an Affordable Care Act provision that takes effect in 2017 and allows the executive branch to waive big chunks of the law for a state that chooses a different approach to expanding health coverage.

Under the law, a state may ask the administration to waive some of the law's requirements beginning in 2017 in favor of an alternative that still achieves the Act's broad goals, including covering the same number of people and keeping coverage at least as affordable. An alternative also may not increase the federal deficit.

Ario told Politico that he views the program as being "quite flexible."

"There clearly are things that can be done," he said.
