The Daily Journal interviewed Manatt's Lindsay Conner, co-chair of the firm's Entertainment and Media practice, for a front-page article on the growing interest of Chinese companies to plant roots in Hollywood. Large deals made 2015 a big year for Hollywood-China partnerships, and 2016 is expected to be even bigger as Chinese companies get more serious about establishing a presence in Los Angeles.
Conner told the Daily Journal that Chinese entertainment companies are increasingly interested in having boots on the ground in California, specifically Los Angeles and Hollywood. "Huayi Brothers is opening a Los Angeles office," he said. "Modern communications are wonderful but there's nothing like having a presence on the ground to be part of the Hollywood environment."
Conner added that the future of cross-border deals is bright, and he expects deals to ramp up across the board next year.
