'Kung Fu Panda 3' Is Expected to Fortify DreamWorks Animation's Ties to China

The Los Angeles Times interviewed Manatt's Lindsay Conner, co-chair of the firm's Entertainment and Media practice, for an article on DreamWorks Animation's big investment in China's film business. 

The Los Angeles Times reports that few Hollywood executives have invested as much as Jeffrey Katzenberg, head of DreamWorks. Katzenberg took a gamble several years ago when he and his partners launched the joint venture Oriental DreamWorks, and the bet is expected to pay off well when the Los Angeles studio releases the third installment of its popular Kung Fu Panda franchise.

"Jeffrey is certainly one of the pioneers in this effort," said Conner. "He has placed a major bet on the ability to do animated co-productions between Hollywood and China. And Kung Fu Panda 3 could be a major payoff on that bet."
