Sizing Up 2014's Copyright Cases

The copyright world was abuzz for much of 2014, as several significant court decisions with potentially far-reaching ramifications were handed down by the nation's appellate courts. 

The U.S. Supreme Court's decision in ABC Inc. v. Aereo Inc., 134 S. Ct. 2498, made a splash over the summer. In a 6-3 decision that recognized substance over form, the court held that Aereo's transmissions of virtually real-time television programs over the Internet constituted infringing public performances.
