Hollywood, China Both See Benefits of Partnership

Ties Between Hollywood and Chinese Film Industries Growing Stronger
– Daily Journal
The Daily Journal interviewed Manatt’s Lindsay Conner, co-chair of the firm’s entertainment and media practice, for an article on the blossoming relationship between China and Hollywood, which strengthened in 2016 through a number of high-profile deals.
Each side gets an important benefit from the cooperation, said Conner, who represented the Chinese production company Perfect World Pictures in a deal with Universal Pictures. At $500 million, it was the year's biggest slate financing deal for films.
"For the U.S. studios, the benefits are a source of capital to share the cost of production and connecting with Chinese partners who may be helpful in the short term or long term in accessing Chinese markets. For Chinese investors, the benefits are a chance to profit from the global entertainment industry and an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in participating in the running of a global entertainment venture,” Conner explained.
