The Hollywood Reporter covered Manatt’s advisory role in Tang Media Partners’ (TMP) launch of a television fund in a joint venture with Chinese media giant Tencent. The deal was announced at the same time TMP announced its acquisition of the independent studio IM Global.
An emerging player in international entertainment, Tang Media Partners, with offices in Los Angeles and Shanghai, focuses on developing, financing, producing and distributing film, TV, music, games, sports and even education and fashion content. The new venture with Tencent will operate under the name IM Global Television, and it includes a dedicated television production investment fund. In a statement, TMP said, “The combined vehicles provide IM Global and IM Global Television with significant capital to further invest in film and television programming development, production and distribution and to expand its global distribution platform.”
Manatt’s Lindsay Conner, co-chair of the firm’s Entertainment and Media practiced, advised TMP in its deal with Tencent. Conner was assisted by counsel Candace Leung.
