Manatt’s Lindsay Conner, co-chair of the firm’s entertainment and media practice, was interviewed by the Los Angeles Times for an article on “Asura,” the most expensive film China’s film industry has produced.
The publication discussed the film’s path from a broad release to an unusually short run in theaters, leading to the perception that “Asura” was an expensive failure, despite featuring a stellar cast.
“Chinese audiences are growing more and more sophisticated,” said Conner. “The Chinese film industry can support higher and higher budgets for its films. But the risks and rewards are both greater than ever.”
