Are Artists Finally Profiting From the Streaming Era?

Manatt’s Jeff Biederman, co-chair of the firm’s music practice, was quoted by The Ringer for an article that examines whether artists are beginning to profit from the music streaming era.

The publication noted that Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and Sony Music enjoyed strong growth in 2017. This has led to a shift in morale at major record companies, which have spent several years battling digital platforms instead of benefiting from them.

“People aren’t walking around with quite such a grim face,” said Biederman. “You definitely can see a new bounce in their step. Streaming is catching up now.”
