Manatt’s Robert Jacobs, co-chair of the firm’s entertainment, sports and media litigation practice, discussed the effects of the growing streaming service industry with the Daily Journal.

As the industry swells with competition and opportunities for monetizing content, lawyers have seen the growth of the entertainment industry as a whole. The publication noted that there is an uptick in music publishers licensing their songs and a rise in challenges for lawyers who handle transactions and distributions.

Jacobs said that streaming deals have been a more pronounced part of the practice of late, particularly as investors are putting more and more skin in the game, and that many projects these days are receiving the type of financial backing typically reserved for high-budget feature films.
