Consumer financial services practice leader Richard Gottlieb spoke with American Banker on the Supreme Court’s decision to hear a case challenging the “for cause” provision, which blocks a president from firing a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) director without proof of poor performance. In the article, Gottlieb commented on the likelihood of the Court ruling that the provision is null and void, saying, “there’s very little chance that the [C]ourt concludes the provision can’t be severed. This case is strictly about the structure of the CFPB.”
