Joanna Allen is a partner in the health care litigation practice in the San Francisco office.
With over a decade of experience litigating issues affecting the managed care industry, Joanna focuses her practice on litigating on behalf of health plans, insurers and other managed care entities, often in complex, high-stakes matters.
Joanna represents many of the nation’s leading health insurers and health plans, including the largest not-for-profit health care service plan in California. Joanna works with these clients to successfully navigate complex litigation, class actions, arbitrations, mediations, negotiations and regulatory disputes in areas such as claims handling, provider reimbursement, coverage disputes and consumer class actions. She has a particular focus on out-of-network reimbursement disputes between health plans and providers, and also routinely advises clients on various legal issues affecting the managed care industry.
In addition, Joanna is actively involved in pro bono and charitable work, and regularly represents low-income individuals and families in eviction proceedings through the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Justice and Diversity Center, Housing Negotiation Project.
