Wilson Quoted in Law360 Article About 2024 Legal Industry Outlook

Calif. Law Firm Leaders Cautiously Enter 2024 With Optimism
– Law360

Manatt CEO and Managing Partner Donna Wilson was quoted in a Law360 article about the key trends impacting the legal industry in 2024.

With the artificial intelligence landscape gaining a foothold in the professional services industry, Wilson said the Firm is building out its consulting capabilities for clients who need operational and legal guidance for implementing AI into their businesses, adding she expects California will be leading an increase in regulatory efforts on that front.

“[AI regulation] cuts across our digital technology group, entertainment, health care, privacy and data security," she said. "We are looking at it for our clients and for ourselves as to how it's going to affect how we can deliver the best value to our clients."

Wilson also discussed new progress on environmental issues, specifically SB 253, which requires companies making more than $1 billion in annual revenue to disclose the scope of their emissions, and SB 261, which requires every company with more than $500 million in annual revenue to develop a biennial report on its climate-related financial risks. She said the Firm is preparing clients to comply with and navigate the new disclosures.

"Again, California is the bellwether, but we wouldn't be surprised if that extended into other states across the country," Wilson said.
