Turovsky Recognized as One of CA's Top 100

Top 100 Lawyers in California
– Daily Journal

Manatt’s Ronald B. Turovsky, chair of the firm's Government Litigation and Administrative Law practice, has been named by the Daily Journal as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California for 2011. Published in the San Francisco and Los Angeles editions, the prestigious list recognizes 100 California-based attorneys who have done “the most cutting-edge work in litigation, regulation and corporate transactions” this year.

Recognized for being an impactful litigator, the Daily Journal featured Turovsky’s successful representation of the State Compensation Insurance Fund in a complex suit determining whether then-Governor Schwarzenegger had the authority to mandate furlough days on Fund employees. Turovsky’s client prevailed in the case, and the Court of Appeal found that the furlough program imposed on the client was illegal.

“The question of whether a government-imposed furlough is justified and whether the governor had the power to impose the furlough in the first place was key to one of Turovsky’s major cases,” wrote the Daily Journal in its introduction of Turovsky. “The 1st District Court of Appeal resolved the lengthy proceedings with a published decision invalidating the furloughs.”

Of the many cases initiated against the furlough programs, this was perhaps the only instance where the Court of Appeal concluded that the furlough was illegal as applied.

In addition, Turovsky’s profile touched on his representation of Kamala Harris at the end of her attorney general campaign, and his handling of post-election litigation issues.

Turovsky is also co-director of Manatt’s national commercial litigation practice, and he has handled a wide array of commercial matters regarding trade secrets, unfair competition, real estate and land use, and entertainment. He’s successfully represented motion picture companies, prominent recording artists, large pension funds, real estate developers and other entities in complex suits.
