Leader of the Firm’s Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement practice and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Michelle Cooke, and Leader of Manatt’s Entertainment Litigation practice Robert Jacobs were named to Daily Journal’s 2022 Top Intellectual Property Lawyers list. This list recognizes California’s leading lawyers handling intellectual property and patent litigation matters.
Cooke’s profile highlighted her work during the COVID-19 pandemic providing strategic counseling to help Mount Sinai Health System establish its corporate identity and assess its intellectual property after it partnered with a diagnostic test company to produce test kits for COVID-19 antibodies. “This was a very dynamic project to help them with because it was a call to what the market needed,” she said. “Helping them navigate that… was a very high-paced, exciting project for us.” Cooke also discussed her work with Eurostar, Inc. to conduct due diligence for the company’s $750 million acquisition by Foot Locker, Inc.
In his profile, Daily Journal reviewed Jacobs’s success in obtaining three summary judgement motions for his representation of Marshmello and others in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Russian electronic DJ Artem Stoliarov who claimed Marshmello’s record “Happier” improperly copied from his remix of the OneRepublic record “I Lived.” His profile also detailed his work representing Roger Hodgson in two ongoing cases regarding the singer’s copyright ownership of certain songwriting royalties, as well as his work for the band Fall Out Boy.
