Songs Music Publishing Sells High-Profile Catalog to Kobalt

Kobalt Capital Acquires Songs Music Publishing Catalogue
– Music Week

Music Week covered Manatt’s representation of Kobalt Music Group in the company’s acquisition of Songs Music Publishing’s catalog. Manatt’s Jeff Biederman, co-chair of the firm’s music practice, and Michael Rexford, counsel in the firm’s entertainment and media practice, led negotiations for Kobalt.

As a result of the sale, which the publication notes was a highly competitive process, Kobalt Music Publishing will administer and service major hits from artists including Lorde, The Weeknd, Diplo and Major Lazer. The deal is reportedly valued at $150 million.

“I feel so fortunate to now hand Songs to … the entire Kobalt team, who together have demonstrated a time-tested commitment to songwriters through their dedication to transparency, honesty and independence,” said Songs founder and CEO Matt Pincus.
